  • 46 Mommas/Shave for the Brave

The 46 Mommas represent all mothers who make the cancer journey with their child.  Our annual teams are comprised of women from across the country, with different backgrounds, beliefs and lifestyles; there is one thing that they have in common–childhood cancer. In 2010, our inaugural team took the name 46 Mommas Shave for the Brave and established a fundraising goal of $1 million for The St. Baldrick’s Foundation. Each year, a new class of 46 Mommas is inducted into the cause to empower and engage mothers of children with cancer. Through increasing awareness of childhood cancer and raising funds for childhood cancer research by shaving our heads, we hope to one day be a group that no longer needs to exist. www.46mommas.com

  • Arms Wide Open Childhood Cancer Foundation

Arms Wide Open Childhood Cancer Foundation is working closely with scientists, researchers and doctors who are pioneers in the pediatric cancer field and are on the forefront of bringing many alternative therapies into clinic that could prolong the lives of children diagnosed with neuroblastoma until a cure is found. Right now only 30 percent of children diagnosed with high-risk neuroblastoma will survive, but because it is an “orphan” cancer, research funding is limited as pharmaceutical companies do not see the efforts as profitable. Recognizing that children should not be viewed as a profit, but, rather, our investment, Arms Wide Open raises money for alternative therapies and actual treatments these children so desperately need in order to survive. www.awoccf.org

After numerous tests, doctors discovered that a very large growth about the size of a large orange was pressing against Christian’s heart, lungs, and stomach. They also discovered growths on the bones in his legs, making it very difficult for him to walk. Christian is currently undergoing chemotherapy and has been in an out of the hospital while the doctors treat him. His treatment is expected to take about three-and-a-half  years.
